For Mickey, Steve, Rick and Chadd Starner, furniture is a family affair. The band of brothers – Mickey, Steve and Rick – and nephew, Chadd, have grown up in the furniture business.
Mickey Sr. began the Starner family furniture legacy as vice president of a Herman Miller dealership in Denver, CO. Furniture was instilled in their brains at an early age. It was only a matter of time before the brothers followed in their father’s footsteps. Instead of playing with Lincoln Logs and Erector sets as kids, the brothers played with Herman Miller toys.
In the 70s, before joining the American Office team, Mickey, Steve & Rick worked for a Herman Miller dealer. Rick was the first of the brothers to join the AO team in 1982. He remains passionate about his work and the challenges as Director of Distribution Services.
“American Office has been good to me and my family members over the past 30 years,” Rick said. “I feel obligated to do the best job I can for American Office, my coworkers and family.”
Mickey was the next Starner to join the team in May of 1987. Mickey has a deep appreciation for the Kuntz family leadership and the growth opportunities American Office has presented to him. Steve, now a Distribution Services Manager with American Office, has fond memories from his 1965 work at the Dever dealership for .50 cents an hour.
Finally in 2011, Chadd joined the Starner pack. His favorite part of working with AO is being able to interact with the customers. Although working with family has its pros and cons, the brothers say the good outweighs the bad.
“What needs to be done, gets done and gets done right,” Rick said.
