They say you never find a better best friend than your Mother. Mother and daughter duo Karen and Sam Maly commute and work side-by-side five days a week in the Baltimore office.
Karen, Sr. Project Manager and Intermarket Coordinator, started working at American Office in July 1993. When Karen first acquired interest in a career with American Office, she found the existing employee’s longevity of employment especially appealing. As majority of employees at that time had resided with American Office for an average 1o years/per employee, Karen knew AO was a workplace she could call home. Her enjoyment and passion working for AO must exceed her as Sam shortly after followed in her mother’s footsteps.
Sam, Intermarket Sales Coordinator, began her journey with American Office in 2012. As a child, Sam reminisces coming to work with her mom. Growing up, she admired her mother and thought it was the best job in the world. Little did Sam know, one day she would own it!
What keeps the dynamic duo around and happy at AO? “No matter what, you will always have each other’s back. My mother is easy to work with and understanding,” Sam said. “I love talking to the different people at AO and other dealerships. I love the different projects that I get to work on,” Sam said.“The ‘CAN DO’ attitude is awesome,” Karen says. “It may not always be easy but it’s always worth it in the end to be able to be a part of her life at this stage in her life. Since we commute together, I get to hear what my grandson did every day. What grandmother wouldn’t want that,” Karen explained.
The Maly’s are also busy at work outside of our Baltimore office walls, prepping for daughter, Sam’s, upcoming wedding on August 9th, 2014. Sam describes how she envisions each detail of her special day, “It will be a casual wedding on a farm overlooking the horses and lake. The reception will be in a barn accompanied by my bridesmaids and I wearing cowboy boots. Our centerpieces will be filled with fresh daisies and sunflowers. I’m thrilled we’ve decided to write our own vows & most excited to have my son present as our ring bearer and my fiancés little sister as our flower girl. Our cake will be 4 tiers and 3 flavors: white velvet with French vanilla mousse, French vanilla with apricot filling, and red velvet with cream cheese filling! We’ll be hosting a seated dinner of filet minion, crab cakes, steamed asparagus & carrots, potato stackers, and Caesar salad.
For decorations, we decided to create most on our own while incorporating a number of antiques from my fiancés family. From jam favors, custom wood for the place cards, and paper fans for programs, we’ve been very busy! Mason jars are a MUST for wedding party, centerpieces and lighting around the edges of the barn. The close of the evening will include an intimate bon fire for our guests to enjoy.” We wish the best of luck to our Maly family and hope the special day is memorable & beautiful for everyone involved. Cheers to many more years and updates to come.
